چکیده

Networks are expanding very fast and the number of clients is increasing dramatically, this causes the router forwarding table to become very large and present more demand on faster router operations. In this paper, we address the problem of packet forwarding in the routers aiming to increase the speed of address lookup and minimize the memory required for storing the forwarding table. We propose a new algorithm that makes use of two-level indexing and Btrees. We test the approach and compare it to other famous IP lookup approaches. The preliminary simulations show 20% less memory requirements and the lookup speed scaling linearly with increasing table size.

A High Performance Parallel IP Lookup Technique Using Distributed Memory Organization and ISCB-Tree Data Structure

The IP Lookup Process is a key bottleneck in routing due to the increase in routing table size, increasing traıc and migration to IPv6 addresses. The IP address lookup involves computation of the Longest Prefix Matching (LPM), which existing solutions such as BSD Radix Tries, scale poorly when traıc in the router increases or when employed for IPv6 address lookups. In this paper, we describe a ...

A Pipelined Indexing Hash Table using Bloom and Fingerprint Filters for IP Lookup

Since achieving a scalable IP lookup has been a critical data path for high-speed routers, such a HT with a predictable lookup throughput for a large prefix table is desirable for these routers. In this paper, we propose a pipelined indexing hash table (PIHT) by using both pipelined BFs in binary search for a key’s fingerprint and a fingerprint filter for memory-efficient approximate match. For...

Efficient Hardware Architecture for Fast IP Address Lookup

 A multigigabit IP router may receive several millions packets per second from each input link. For each packet, the router needs to find the longest matching prefix in the forwarding table in order to determine the packet’s next-hop. In this paper, we present an efficient hardware solution for the IP address lookup problem. We model the address lookup problem as a searching problem on a binar...

Cache Conscious Indexing for Decision-Support in Main Memory

We study indexing techniques for main memory, including hash indexes, binary search trees, T-trees, B+-trees, interpolation search, and binary search on arrays. In a decision-support context, our primary concerns are the lookup time, and the space occupied by the index structure. Our goal is to provide faster lookup times than binary search by paying attention to reference locality and cache be...
